Quantitative management of the testing process can be accomplished by adapting the tools, methods, and procedures used for generalprocesscon trol in the software engineering domain. It is useful to initially select test subprocesses as targets for control since their scope is smaller and there fore easier to manage. Some example test subprocesses that are suggested are inspections, system test, and unit test. As a precondition to quantitative control, the target testing process, or subprocess must be documented and its steps well defined. Measure ments must be standardized, and expected ranges for the measurements must also be documented.
